Bharat Muni, and is considered to be the seminal source book for dancers and

Indian Arts
The
arts reached high levels in India even before the time of Christ. They developed
differently in each part of the country. As a result, Indian arts include
a wide variety of forms and styles.
Indian paintings include two major kinds: wall paintings and miniatures. Most
wall paintings such as those in the caves at Ajanta, extend around the walls
of a room and tell a story. Miniature paintings, done on small pieces of paper,
reached high levels during year 1500 to 1800. These paintings generally show
life among the ruling classes of India, or scenes from Hindu legends.
Literature
Each language spoken in India has its own literature. Classics in Sanskrit date
from about 1500 B.C. They rank among the great achievements of world literature.
They include the Rig-Veda, the earliest collection of hymns ever made; and two
epic poems, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Others are the Upanishads, a collection
of philosophical dialogues; and the Panchatantra, a collection of fables.
